The Conservatory

Conservatory/Glasshouse (1880). Originally constructed as an open air lookout tower, Lansell commissioned a unique collection of personalised glass panels in Italy while sojourning through Europe with his first wife in 1876. On their return, the structure was lavishly refashioned into a stylish conservatory featuring this series of acid-etched glass panes, which feature figurative designs of Renaissance inspiration, and interspersed with narrow margins of red-flashed glass of various geometric and floral patterns.
